Wanderers will face Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground in the Vertu Trophy quarter-final next week.

The Red Dragons beat Port Vale 4-1 on Tuesday night in a round of 16 tie which had previously been postponed due to the weather conditions.

Bolton's quarter-final will be played on Tuesday, February 11 (7.30pm) as confirmed by Wrexham's official website.

Port Vale went ahead inside the opening minute at Vale Park when Ronan Curtis slotted home from an angle.

Andy Cannon got the equaliser after good work by Mo Faal, and Phil Parkinson’s side never looked back from that point.

Harry Ashfield put Wrexham in front early in the second half after getting on the end of Ryan Longman’s cut back for his first senior goal.

Elliott Lee added a third after the hour mark with a clinical finish after more good work by wing-back Longman.

Faal wrapped up the result eight minutes from time, guiding home Sebastian Revan’s low cross to complete a positive night for the Welsh club.

Wrexham now stand between Wanderers and a place in the last four for the second time in three seasons.

The points were shared when the sides met in the league earlier this season following a goalless draw at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Wrexham currently sit third in the League One table, four points off the automatic promotion spots, as they aim to build on back-to-back promotions from the National League.

Two quarter-final ties were played on Tuesday night. Bradford won 1-0 at Rotherham in the northern section, while Birmingham beat Stevenage by the same scoreline in the southern.

Peterborough take on Cheltenham at London Road tonight (Wednesday) in the remaining southern tie.
